The new version of Farming Simulator 22, which will be launched on November 22, 2021, aims to provide gamers and farming lovers with a whole new experience in planting and harvesting crops. While the previous version of FS19 allowed gamers to plant 6 types of crops, the latest version of FS22 adds three more to the kitty.
What are the crops currently available in the game? What are the mechanics and specifics involved with each of them? Please keep reading to know the answers to these questions.
Crops available in Farming Simulator 22
The previous version of FS19 allowed users to choose among 6 different types of crops. They were:
- Grains
- Root Crops
- Cotton
- Sugarcane
- Poplar
- Grass, hay and silage
In the new version of Farming Simulator 22, three more new crops are added to the above list. They are:
- Grapes
- Olives
- Sorghum
Reasons for the addition of new crops in FS22
Have you ever wondered why the makers, Giants Software, launched three new crops in FS22? What triggered the choice of the crops for the company? Here are some reasons, which will explain the same to you.
Launch of new production chains – In the new version, the makers have planned to introduce new production chains, so that gamers can make the most of their crops, and not just stop harvesting them. So, while olives could be passed on to the next stage of extracting oil, grapes could be used to make wine. In the new FS22 version, there are enough mechanics and production chains to maximize the utility and profitability of these crops.
The vines are cultivated in such a way that they collide with each other. So, the machines to control them are very intricate, small and professional in Farming Simulator 22. The seasons of planting and harvesting the new crops are as follows:
- Planting of grapes and olives – between March and end of June
- Harvest of grapes – between September and end of October
- Harvest of olives – October
- Planting of sorghum – between April and May
- Harvest of sorghum – between August and end of September
Launch of new maps – One of the most interesting features of the new version of this game is the launch of new maps and climatic conditions. The recent locations' Mediterranean climate was quite apt for growing olives and grapes, which explains the introduction of the new crops.
Popularity – Sorghum was introduced in FS22 because it is currently one of the most popular and nutrititious crops in the USA. The warm climate conditions in the new version are ideal for growing sorghum.
A brief overview of the crops and points you need to remember
Here, we give you the list of 9 new crops that you can enjoy on FS22. We also give you a few points to remember on each of them to make the most of your farming session while you are on the game.
Grain
- The different grains you can plant here are wheat, oats, barley, sunflower, canola, soybean and corn.
- These need different machines and for planting and harvesting.
- You can see the new feature of the crop calendar in the latest version of FS22, where, you can get the full details about the timing when each crop needs to be sowed and when it needs to be harvested.
- Cultivator, Seeder, Plow and a harvester with a header for grains are the common tools used.
- Each of these can be used to feed the animals you breed in the pens you have set up.
Root Crops
- These include potatoes and beetroots, both being considered quite challenging.
- Remember to plow your fields after every planting.
- They cannot be stored in silos like other crops; they should be saved using a belt system in semi-trailers. You can also store them on pallets, or the ground.
- Potatoes and beetroots can help you make a decent sum of money. One hectare each of potatoes and beetroots can help you earn about $30,000.
- Potatoes can be more demanding than other crops because the machines used for sowing and harvesting cannot be used for others.
- Both can be used as feed for pigs.
- Exclusive planters, harvesters with a header to hold potatoes or beetroots and semi-trailers are used for these crops.
Cotton
- Always grow cotton on a large field. The size should be at least 1 hectare. This way, you can cultivate more cotton, and earn more money. You need about 2 hectares of field to produce a bale of cotton.
- Planting cotton is simple and automatic. You need a properly-treated field. The automatic cotton harvester, CaseIH Module Express 635, takes care of the rest of the processes.
- Use the trailers under the "Cotton technology" category in Farming Simulator 22 to load the cotton and transport it to the right destination.
Sugarcane
- You need special tools to grow sugarcane in FS22, just like you did in the previous version of the game. All the mechanics you need for this crop can be found under "Sugarcane Technology" category.
- You can pick from three planter options, with the expensive one giving you double the planting width offered by the cheap models.
- You don't have to specially treat or plow the field before planting sugarcane. Fill the pallets to the planter, and attach them to the tractor to start the process.
- You can use one of the two special harvesters available for sugarcane crops (CaseIH Austoft 8800 Multi-Row, or Lizard SWT). You can choose the harvester, depending on the size of your harvest.
Grass, Hay and Silage
- Use one of the few mowers available on FS22 to collect the grass from the ground. Choose highly effective mowers that help you mow multiple belts at a time.
- Using loading wagons, or balers, you can transport the collected grass (called silage).
- Withered grass becomes hay. So, you need to use Tedders on the grass to start the withering process. Loading wagons, balers, or auger wagons can be used to collect hay. Hay lofts, where collected hay is stored, can be placed near animal pens to feed animals.
- Fermented grass becomes silage. Since it is a natural fertilizer, you can sell this at the Biogas Plant, and make money from silage.
