Farming Simulator 22 Crops: A Deeper Look
From the earlier announcements of Giants Software, you might have already known that FS22, which will be launched on November 22, 2021, will have three new crops this season – grapes, olives and sorghum. In its recent announcement, the company has come up with a few more details of these new crops that every gamer should know. Please keep scrolling down for further details on the same.
Reason for introducing these three new crops
Many of you may wonder why Giants Software introduced the three new crops of grapes, olives and sorghum for this season. The developers' objective was not just to add to the crop number in the game, but to ensure that they introduce something in line with the other new features (such as production chains, new working tools, seasonal gameplay, etc.).
The Midwestern region of the USA inspires the new Elmcreek map of Farming Simulator 22, and the Mediterranean climate dominates this region. So, it was only natural that the makers introduced these 3 crops that would grow well in these climatic conditions.
In sync with the new features of FS22
Grapes and olives could be handled well with the new machine types that were introduced in the new version. Thanks to the production chains, grapes could be converted into wine, and olives could be converted into oil. Also, the new build mode (a new feature in the game) is very helpful when planting vines. As you can see, these crops make a perfect combination of the new features in the game.
Why sorghum, you may wonder. Sorghum is quite a popular crop in the Midwestern region of the USA. Since it is loaded with nutrients, the makers didn't think twice before including this crop in the new version of the game.
Care to be taken while using machines to plant grapes and olives
Unlike other crops, grapes and olives should be planted with great care using special machine types. The vines are densely planted, and you have to mulch grass between the vines to give them the perfect condition to thrive well. The machines used for planting and harvesting grapes & olives have a very small width to maneuver easily among the small vines.
This way, other crops planted in the vicinity aren't damaged. The width of the working tools used for these crops is just about 1 to 1.5m. So, it would help if you spent a lot of time and effort while working between the vines. However, when you see the flavorful fruits on the vines, you wouldn't think of the struggle you went through to plant them.
Planting and harvesting process
Giants Software has also introduced the new build mode (will be explained later) in the latest version of the game. This feature gives you clear instructions to plant vines and mulch grass in between the vines. You can also use the special fertilizer machines to spray fertilizer to the vines and keep them safe & fertile. At the time of harvesting, remember to cut back the leaves to allow the grapes to grow.
We already told you about the latest version’s new seasonal gameplay option. If you have kept this feature on, you need to strictly follow the crop calendar while planting and harvesting these new crops. The planting time of grapes and olives is from March to the end of June. They can be harvested between September and the end of October. The planting time of Sorghum is between April and May, while its harvest time is between August and the end of September.
Use of harvested crops
Until FS19, you could do only one thing with your harvested crops – sell them and make money from them. However, on Farming Simulator 22, you can now do more with your harvested crops, thanks to the launch of the production chains. You can transport your grapes to another place to make wine or raisins from them. Alternatively, you can also sell them to a supermarket or local market to make money quickly.
Once you have harvested the olives, you can load them in trailers and unload them at the oil mill to make oil from them. Sorghum can be converted to flour, when you unload your harvest at the grain mill. Once you are fully aware of the planting and harvesting techniques of these three new crops, you can use them well to add more and more money to your virtual bank account.
